You can access a digital version of your Emirates ID through either the UAEICP app or UAE Pass, both free, both official, and both accepted for most everyday identity checks.
This guide walks through both routes, how to add it to Apple Wallet, and what to do if your physical card is still being processed.
What Is the Digital Emirates ID?
The digital Emirates ID is an electronic version of your physical card, stored securely through UAE Pass or the UAEICP app rather than carried in your wallet.
It carries your core card details, and its QR view shows your Emirates ID number, unified number and expiry date. It is accepted for many day-to-day checks, though some organisations still ask for the physical card.
For the fuller picture of what the Emirates ID itself covers, including who needs one and how it links to your visa, see our complete Emirates ID guide.
How to Download via the UAEICP App
- Download the UAEICP app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Log in using your UAE Pass credentials.
- Go to Cards (or Emirates ID on the home screen, depending on the app version), then select Emirates ID.
- Tap your name to view your digital Emirates ID.
From here, you can also download a PDF copy for offline access, useful if you need to upload your ID to a form without an internet connection. If you’re setting up a business here and need help getting your Emirates ID sorted alongside your visa, our VIP medical and Emirates ID service handles that whole process for you.
How to Download via UAE Pass (and Add to Apple Wallet)
- Open the UAE Pass app and sign in.
- Go to Documents, then Add Documents.
- Select Emirates ID under the Personal section and tap Request; your UAE Pass account must already be verified.
- Wait a few minutes for it to appear in your Documents tab.
Adding it to Apple Wallet specifically is done inside the UAEICP app rather than UAE Pass directly: open the app, select your Emirates ID, and choose Add to Apple Wallet. This feature is currently iPhone-specific; Android and Samsung users can still view a QR code version of the card through the same app, even without wallet integration.
If you’re new to the UAE’s digital government services generally, our ICA Smart Services guide covers the wider platform these apps sit within, from identity card services to visa and passport tracking.
Can You Download It from the ICP Website?
No. The ICP website offers ID Card Status, new card issuance, data update and renewal, but the digital card itself is issued only through the UAEICP app and UAE Pass.
Using the QR Code When Your Card Is Under Process
If your Emirates ID is still being processed, whether it’s a first application, a renewal, or a replacement, you’re not left without proof of identity in the meantime. Our Emirates ID renewal guide covers the renewal timeline itself in more depth if that’s the situation you’re in.
The UAEICP app lets you generate a QR code version of your details even before the physical card is issued, generated on the spot from your Unified Number, Emirates ID number or passport details. Government agencies and service providers can scan this code directly for verification, which covers most of the gap until your physical card arrives.
Where the Digital Emirates ID Is Accepted
The Emirates ID is required across government services, GCC travel for citizens, and airport e-gates. Where the digital version is accepted varies by organisation, so check before relying on it.
In practice, the digital version is commonly accepted in everyday situations such as:
Banking
identity verification and KYC checks at most UAE banks
Telecom
verifying your account with providers like Etisalat or du
Government services
logging into government portals and completing official transactions
Airports
the physical card is still what ICP and u.ae list for e-gates and smart gates, so carry it when you travel
Security checks
police and general identity checks
Some specific procedures may still ask for the physical card, so it’s worth keeping both accessible rather than relying on the digital version exclusively.
Lost, Stolen, or Incorrect Details
If your physical card is lost, stolen, or damaged, report it to ICP within 7 days so it can be deactivated. If you’d already added your digital ID beforehand, or your replacement is now in process, you can still use the app-based QR code in the meantime.
If your phone is lost, your digital ID is protected by your device’s own biometric lock or PIN, and remotely wiping the device removes the stored digital ID along with everything else on it.
If your personal details are incorrect, report the change to ICP within one month. Our step-by-step tutorial on updating personal information through ICP Smart Services walks through exactly how. Once your official record is corrected, your digital ID updates to match automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the digital Emirates ID legally valid?
It is an official ICP-issued version and is accepted for many identity checks, but neither ICP nor u.ae states that it is legally equivalent to the card, and some procedures still require the physical version.
Do I need both the UAEICP app and UAE Pass?
Not strictly, but using both gives you the most flexibility: UAE Pass for general document access, and the UAEICP app specifically for Apple Wallet integration and the QR code feature.
Can Android users add their Emirates ID to a digital wallet?
Apple Wallet integration is currently iPhone-specific. Android and Samsung users can still access a QR code version through the UAEICP app for verification purposes.
Can I use the digital Emirates ID if my physical card is still being processed?
Yes, the UAEICP app can generate a QR code version of your details before the physical card is issued, generated on the spot from your Unified Number, Emirates ID number or passport details.
What happens to my digital Emirates ID if I lose my phone?
It’s protected by your phone’s biometric lock or PIN, and remotely wiping the device removes the digital ID along with the rest of your data.
How do I update incorrect details on my digital Emirates ID?
Report the change to ICP directly within one month of noticing it. Your digital ID updates automatically once your official record is corrected.
